A Change is as Good as a Rest

Updated: Aug 8, 2022

Even if you have been married a long time, that doesn’t mean you can’t change your wedding ring. What’s to stop you? It might even make an excellent day gift for your partner?

Recently a gentleman came to me to make a new wedding ring.

He had been married for a while, but was tired of his own standard 18ct white gold court shaped wedding ring. So with some old inherited pieces of 9ct yellow gold and some bought in 9ct red gold we set about making a chunky distressed ring in a Mokume Gane style

So with a considerable amount of material we make sure to melt down each different coloured gold then rolled it into sheets. Then we laminated it together to make a stripy sheet of metal. Then we swaged that laminated piece of metal into a curved piece which we sawed into small section which we then licked tightly together and fused.

This process gave the unique patterns in the metal.
