The brief for this project was to design and craft a pair of vintage style wedding rings. The bride, who owns a vintage clothes shop, had a 14ct white gold vintage engagement that the wedding ring had to compliment; while the groom wanted Richard to make his ring from an heirloom red gold signet ring that had belonged to his father.
14ct white gold can no longer be bought so in order to make the bride’s ring Richard had to melt down pure gold and make the white gold himself.
The groom’s ring involved recycling the signet ring to use the decorative sections, while the parts that were left were refashioned to make the sides of the new ring.
The end result was a 14ct white gold vintage-style ring for the bride – with shaped edge to fit snugly against the vintage engagement ring – and a patterned red gold ring for the groom, 100% recycled and maintaining the link with his inheritance.
